Janis Van Ahn
With more than 16 years of experience working with insurance agencies throughout the Des Moines area, Janis recognized a growing need for specialized guidance in health insurance and founded Health Insurance Advisors in March 2010. Since then, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals, families, Medicare beneficiaries, and small businesses navigate the often-complex world of health insurance with confidence.Known for her integrity, expertise, and dedication to client advocacy, Janis has built lasting relationships with clients who trust her guidance and appreciate her personalized approach to healthcare coverage.

Betheny Wilson
Betheny joined the Health Insurance Advisor team in September 2019 and quickly developed a passion for helping individuals navigate the complexities of Medicare. Working closely alongside Janis for her first two years, she gained extensive knowledge of Medicare regulations, enrollment processes, and plan options while learning the personalized approach that Health Insurance Advisors is known for. Today, Betheny works directly with Medicare beneficiaries, educating clients on their coverage choices and helping them understand how different plan options align with their healthcare needs, budget, and lifestyle. She is committed to providing clear guidance, exceptional service, and the confidence clients need to make informed healthcare decisions.

Meghan Gengler
Meghan appreciates the challenges that entrepreneurs face, and the demands on their time. She has helped her self-employed husband run his flooring installation business for 19 years and has experienced many of these challenges firsthand. Her goal is to make the process of health insurance easy to understand and manage so that business owners can quickly get back to more important things like spending time with their families and growing their business.
Associate Advisor
Ciri Quirk
Ciri joined the Health Insurance Advisor team in May of 2025, immediately after graduating with a degree in Business Analytics and Marketing. She is ready to launch her career as an insurance advisor specializing in the under-65 market. With a data-driven mindset and a passion for helping individuals find the right coverage, she is focused on guiding clients through the complexities of health insurance. Ciri hopes to combine analytical insights with a more personal approach to deliver clear and effective solutions that meet each clients unique needs.
Associate Advisor
Brogan Freese
Brogan joined Health Insurance Advisor in August 2024 after earning his Health & Life Insurance licenses, drawing on his background in customer service and coaching to connect with clients. For more than a year and a half, he has worked closely with Betheny in the Medicare market, gaining hands‑on experience and a deep understanding of the complexities clients face when navigating their coverage options. Now stepping into the role of Associate Advisor, Brogan is excited to continue serving clients with the same dedication. He strives to make the Medicare process as clear and stress‑free as possible, ensuring each client feels confident and supported every step of the way.
Client Services Administrator
Nicki Michaud
Nicki joined Health Insurance Advisor in August of 2022 after almost 10 years in retail management. Her prior experience helps her understand the importance of maintaining client relationships. Nicki provides support to our clients in the Medicare market, answering questions about coverage that may arise, assistance with claims, reviewing current coverage, etc. Nicki also specializes in Travel Medical Insurance and Dental Insurance.

Zach Watson
Zach joined the Health Insurance Advisor team in March of 2025 after a strong 8 year presence in the Des Moines restaurant Industry. His prior experience helps him understand the importance of above average customer service and exceeding client expectations to create the best experience possible. Zach's drive and determination to be efficient and manage this business to success makes his role not only integral in our office, but to Beth and her clients as well!
Administrative Assistant
Taylor Kunze
Taylor joined Health Insurance Advisor in February 2026. Before entering the insurance field, she completed cosmetology school, where she strengthened her customer service skills and learned to adapt to new challenges. She discovered that her favorite part of the profession was building relationships and making a positive difference in people’s lives. Taylor is excited to work alongside Janis and bring that same people-first approach to helping clients navigate their insurance needs. She understands that health insurance can feel overwhelming and strives to be a dependable, supportive resource, helping clients make informed decisions with confidence.

Catherine Cook
Catherine worked in property and casualty insurance for over 11 years before making the transition to health insurance advisor in July 2026. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed working closely with a variety of clients and embraces the adventure that comes with navigating new experiences and opportunities. As Meghan’s assistant, she looks forward to building new relationships, expanding her knowledge, and learning about new products. Catherine is looking forward to meeting everyone who stops by the Johnston office and helping make each visit a welcoming one. She and her fur baby, Darby, are both very proud and excited to be part of this amazing team!

This 6-year-old girl is so proud to join the team! She’s a diligent door greeter with an enthusiasm that shows with every hard wag of her tail. She loves chasing squirrels and will happily accept all the pets you can spare.
Her contagious smile is sure to win you over—and she’ll gladly take all the treats you can spare, too! With her yoga-inspired body, she has room to take on a few extra pounds. Please show her some love by treating her to a snack from our selection in the lobby!
